DESCRIPTION OF THE 'FUEL ADVISOR' APP:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q: HOW TO USE THIS APP
Any suggestions?
A: Set the trip odometer of your vehicle to zero when you have completely filled your tank with fuel. The next time you completely fill your tank with fuel, use the app to enter the total amount of litres or gallons since the last complete fillup and enter the distance (trip odometer), then set the trip odometer to zero again. Then click the CALCulation and SAVE buttons. For testing the app, see Q: TEST DATA below.

Q: INTERNET:
Do I need to have an internet connection while using the app?
A: Not for most functions. The app saves data to a database right on your iPhone and does not need the internet for that. An internet connection is only needed when you export historical data as an attached spreadsheet via email.

Q: TEST DATA
How do I create test data to try out functions of the app, like history report or exporting a spread sheet ?
A: You may save several fuel and distance entries from the home screen in one session using the DATE button. (See Q: DATES below) (Click the icons at the bottom of the home screen to see other functions.) When you are done testing, you can delete all the test data, using the editing screen.

Q: KM/MILES:
May I enter kilometers for distance on one day and miles on another day?
A: Yes, perfectly fine. Distance will always be both kilometers and miles in the spread sheet.

Q: GALLONS/LITERS:
May I enter gallons for fuel on one day and liters on another day?
A: Yes, fine. Fuel will always be liters, US gallons and Imperial gallons in the spread sheet.

Q: DATES:
When should I click on the "DATE" button (added early 2019) ?
A: Normally you do not need to click on this button, as the app automatically uses the current date and time when you "SAVE" fuel and distance data. If you need to backdate an entry then click on the "DATE" button before the "SAVE" button and follow instructions. (The "DATE" button appears after you have entered the "CALCULATE" BUTTON.)

Q: UK GALLONS:
Why bother with Imperial Gallons?
A: Some companies advertise good fuel usage for vehicles in MPG (miles per gallon) by deceptively using Imperial gallons in the calculation, while in the USA the gallons are smaller, resulting in a lower real MPG. The app calculates both, so you can compare as needed.

Q: MAXIMUM:
What is the maximum distance or quantity of fuel I can enter at one time?
A: 9999.99

Q: MISTAKE:
What if I make a mistake and save bad data?
A: No problem. You can go to the Edit screen, delete the bad entry, then enter and save the correct info.
You can backdate the new entry if necessary by clicking on the "DATE" button before saving. See Q: DATES above.

Q: WHAT IF:
May I do "what if" fuel usage calculations and NOT save the data?
A: Yes, you can. Just do not click on the "SAVE" button. That way you can also convert miles to kilometers, liters to gallons and vice versa, without saving.

Q: MULTIPLE EMAILS:
How can I control which email sends the exported history spread sheet when I have more than one email address active on my iPhone?
A: When there are more than one ACTIVE email addresses on your iPhone, the system automatically uses the "default" as the "from" email address when exporting. See iPhone or iPad Settings -> Mail -> Default. You can change the default email address.

Q: SPREADSHEET ON iPHONE?
Can I read the spreadsheet in landscape format on my iPhone?
A: Yes. One way to do this: Send the email with the spreadsheet attached to a second email registered on your iPhone. When it is received, open the spreadsheet with "Numbers", the Apple spreadsheet software - neat! (You can download Numbers to the iPhone from the App store, no charge).

Q: CUSTOM REPORTS?
(Total kilometers, miles, average MPG, date range filters, etc.) ?
A1: The exported spreadsheet contains all the historical raw data as well as MPG, liters/100 km, miles/Liter, etc. - you may add your own custom calculations in the spreadsheet software, such as "EXCEL" (Microsoft), "Numbers" (Apple), "Libre Office", etc.
A2: You can custom select any 3 columns for the app screen history report: Click on "?" on the HISTORY screen.
